21st of January

Thanks, don't know how I missed that.  Mind I had an email today confirming that as well.  First issue then, and every four weeks. Nice way to end the month!

I'm guessing the page size is similar to that of US sized comics rather than the larger prog. Does the resizing of material look okay? (for those that have tried the test batch)

Pete Wells

I re-subscribed to this today (it's a long story...) and my subscriber number went from 00018 to well into the 700's. I know that isn't a very scientific study but it seems to be doing well if they've got around about that many subbers at £20 a month...

Next week. 2000ads FB page has been doing a countdown.

Weirdly I (subscriber to the initial run) got a zero invoice from them today that read as if it was to be included with the actual volumes. Different to the 'thank you for your old subscription, it is being transferred to the new volumes automatically' one of a few weeks back.

Long may they keep charging me nothing.
If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.

Wider than US comics. The test run was about 1cm shorter than a Rebellion TPB, same width (it looks slightly wider and only about 0.5 cm shorter because it has a slightly oversized hard back cover. Absolutely no resizing issues.

These really are stunning quality reproductions. The cover styling is great, the quality of the book first rate. The 'additional material' is a bit over-sold:

issue 1 has 2 page text / picture article on the background of Wagner writing the story (nothing new), 2 pages of MacNeil character sketches (solid gold) ,1 large cover reproduction and 4 1/4 page cover reproductions. It also has the drawn-by-MacNeil short 'Firepower' from Prog 736 which seems pretty incongruous. TBH a couple of more MacNeil sketches or full sized covers would have been more apt.

Issue 2 has 5 full page covers and a 1 page bio on Colin MacNeil

Issue 3 has 9 full sized covers (including a Bolland wrap-around) and a one page article by Molcher on the story's context.

So tbh the only real exclusive stuff so far is 2 pages of sketches in vol. 1

However that really doesn't matter when you see how nice these hardback editions are.the only thing I hope they modify is the lack of full colour spreads in the pre-colour Dredd. It's clear from the paper, printing and colour covers in the same book it isn't a cost decision dictating that (or a cost-to-print decision, maybe pre-printing reproduction work would be needed).

When you see Vol 1 in the shops you'll jump on. These are, even at 9.99, incredible value.

That's a great description - I'm even more excited for this now. It seems they've begun to arrive, so hopefully mine will come this week.

Do we know yet which high street retailers, supermarkets etc will be carrying these?

Bit of coordination on the board will be good, I'll certainly update where and when I find em (although I'm buying multiple of #1 & #2 as gifts as its a unique opportunity to Spread The Word.

Good call BPP I am sure that the usual suspects such as FP and WH Smiths wil lcarry pluis mybe some local newsagents, and probably ASDA who always seem to have these large Hachette 3000 part collections on the shelf. (I should know I got the initial issues of the Star Trek Space ships collection from there!)

IndigoPrime

It'll be interesting to see if there's any correlation or not with places that actually carry 2000 AD. None of our local supermarkets do (despite the nearby Tesco being the size of a small town), but even our smallish WHSmith has 2000 AD on the shelves every week.

FP won't have it (unless, as some intend, they go through a few creative hoops) as its not for LCS. Given those may have a back stock of Rebellion TPBs you can see the logic.

Forbidden Planet will be carrying it, as will selected comic book stores across the UK and Ireland.
