Has anyone read this? I never understood American comics annuals coming out this time of year in the first place. What's the reason? More importantly has anyone read this? Aside from the Matt Smith IDW Dredd I haven't been the biggest fan of IDW Dredd on the whole, and yet I've collected them all lol.
I'm really hoping there is an improvement in this annual and the upcoming 'Blessed Earth' Dredd series to justify my finances being stretched.

I was put off my the price, but when I picked it up from the local comic shop at least it felt a bit heftier than the usual.  Unfortunately it's in the same IDW continuity as Mega-City Zero (all that one thousand years shenanigans) but the Luna City One story is okay, and I'm liking the Warhammer 40K Space Marine style story so far (got interrupted in my reading and haven't finished it yet).  Not saying too much, but it's the best we've had from the main IDW Dredd so far (the mini-series still remain far superior).

Discussed it over at the New comic book day thread

Though in a typical mistype meant 'package' not "baggage" (what the fuck was that about!?!). Anyway it wasn't bad, but not great. Worth giving the warning that I'm a fan of the ongoing and looking forward to The Blessed Earth, so word on the street has it I'm not to be trusted!

I picked this up, and aplogies if I'm repeating what you said Colin, but I think my main problem with the title as is, is that it's all rather over written.
There are some good ideas fighting to get out but the somewhat disjointed storytelling and clunky dialogue at times lets it down.

I appreciate what the writers are trying to do, to strip away all the familar trappings that make Dredd 'Dredd'.
Like Mega-City One, The Citizens and going to the lengths, no pun intended, of giving Dredd a beard, but I'm not sure it's gelling yet.
I thought Mega-City Zero started strongly with its 'scorched earth' mystery surrounding the missing citizens, but it lost its way during the run.
Maybe a more stripped back approach as seen in the Predator vs Judge Dredd vs Aliens would yield better results.

Having said that, I too am looking forward to reading 'The blessed earth' and hope we get some kind of resolution with the current storyline.

If nothing else, it's gratifying to see IDW still support the title with an attempt to make inroads for the character in the U.S.
