Well, there was some mild irritation elsewhere, but I got some ointment for it.

What you need is some kingsfoil, mate - a nice athelas poultice will clear that right up.

Barry Humphries has been cast as the Goblin King. How cool is that? Just hope the scripts are good - I've got a sinking feeling that the two Hobbit films, despite the amazing cast involved and the amount of money being thrown at them, will only ever be poor cousins of the LOtR trilogy.

Spaceghost

Benedict Cumberbatch (what a name!) who plays Sherlock in the recent BBC series has been cast as the voice of Smaug the Dragon.

This will reunite him, of course, with Martin 'Watson' Freeman.

Anyone know if Hugo Weaving will be returning as Elrond?
Raised in the wild by sarcastic wolves.

Previously known as L*e B*tes. Sshhh, going undercover...

That's a brilliant bit of casting.

Didn't Viggo confirm he would be in it? Aragorn would be just as easy to shoe horn in as Legolas is, albeit hopefully as cameos for both

Wha-?? I don't even know who this character is, but this makes me happy!

Dunk!

So the Necromancer gets to talk which is basically
Sauron
talking, IIRC.

Interesting.

Part of me now wants Smaug to speak in a posh English drawl. "Oh Heh-lowww"
"Trust we"

Not sure which King Dain is;

In J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium:

    * Dáin I, last King of the Dwarves in the Grey Mountains
    * Dáin II Ironfoot, Dwarven King under the Lonely Mountain

Dain Ironfoot is the one in the book anyway - shows up at the Battle of the Five Armies, takes over from Thorin.  Pretty tiddly part for Blessed, but probably in line with the 'famous actor in final reel regal cameo' tradition established by Sean Connery as Richard Lionheart in Robin Hood:  Prince of Thieves.  Also, he's the only known British actor not to appear in either Harry Potter or LotR, so it's his turn.  Personally I'd have cast him as Gwahir the giant eagle, so he could shout 'Diiiiive!" as he swoops in...

Evangeline Lilly will be playing :- a new character—The Woodland Elf, Tauriel. Beyond the name, Jackson is remiss to reveal any other information about the role.

hmmm
loveforstitch - Does he fall in love? I like a little romance in all my movies.

Rekaert - Yes, he demonstrates it with bullets, punches and sentencing.

He's Mega City 1's own Don Juan.

Indeed it is, im going to put my neck on the line and say that i feel safe in the knowledge both hobbit films will be as good as the lotr trilogy.

I was worried about the projects right up till the point PJ was back as director not to take anything away from Guillermo del Toro of course.

Hmm. I'm the other way - I felt more hopeful when Del Toro was in the director's chair. Jackson seems to have lost his way somewhat since LotR - I mean, King Kong, The Lovely Bones...? Hardly fills me with confidence. Hope he can pull it out the bag for The Hobbit.
