Shit, that's terrible news.

There's not much I can add to the comments above, but I'm glad that his family were with him at the end. I found this by Alan Donald, that sums up why Tom Frame was so loved and respected much better than I ever could:

"For decades Mr Frame has delivered the goods for 2000AD and I feel he deserves a hell of a lot of recognition for it. I don't know why or how but you can always tell a Tom Frame panel, it reads well, it makes good use of space both to fill the bubble and avoid intruding too much. He is in short an unrecognised genius of the comic book world. I wish I could put my finger on what it is about his work that makes me feel this way towards it but I can't as is perhaps fitting."

Dredd just won't be Dredd without you Tom.

Thanks to Tom for all his hard work for such a long time, and condolences to his family.  =(

Terrible news - Tom's lettering was as much Judge Dredd as just about anything - the Wagner McMahon and just as crucially Frame combination in the 81 and 82 Dredd annuals have yet to be topped for me - no-one has ever beaten those special effects .  I'd noticed that Tom hadn't done this weeks Dredd when i read it, as his style was so unmistakeable and so complimentary to whatever strip he contributed to.

Sincere condolences to the family - For a man whose job it was in some ways to be "invisible", he'll be sorely missed by many a squaxx

Nice one Ratty, ... though you're spelling isn't quite as good as Tom's!!

Yeah. Only noticed when I put it up here.

That's terrible news. Lettering is something that gets taken for granted a lot, but Tom Frame's name is as instantly recognisable as Wagner or Ezquerra etc. and he'll be missed greatly.

Really, really upset to hear this.

At Dreddcon 3, we hatched a fiendish plan to grab Tom and ask him what his favourite letter was. :-)

In the end, he was a really nice (and drunk) old guy and we just had a quick photo.

It's a nice memory to have and I wish I'd had a proper chat.

Rest in peace, Tom.

I don't know why, but the board isn't keen on the pic I'm trying to paste.
