O Lucky Stevie!

We all went to school with this guy.

Slavoj Zizek on the real utility of shows like Friends. Pixar are missing a trick by not casting Zizek as a furry animal character in one of their animations.

The brilliant thing is, he was responding to a question about Christ on the cross - which he does express some interesting ideas about here. I like his thoughts on that topic because they chime with my own interpretation of that event and my response to the interpretation imposed upon them by theologians when I was eight.

Spikes

A slightly distracting amount of nose fiddling going on there, but its OK.

That's his signature, Jack. That and the shirt tugging are Zizek's equivalents of Elvis's lip curl and Degas's ballet dancers. Folk would be disappointed if he didn't do it, and the build up of tension in the room until he gives them one or the other is palpable.

JOE SOAP

I wonder what Zizek would be like on cocaine.

According to this site, the short term effects of cocaine use can include the user becoming incredibly confident of their own abilities, animated, talkative, and sweating and sniffing excessivel ... oh, I see what you mean.

OK so it's not exactly "Gold".

And it's filmed sideways.

But here's me going down a Zipwire (the UK's longest no less) to the strains of a-ha.

UK's longest? Not any more boyo! This one is twice as long, over a mile in fact - and you go down Superman-style!

Oh well, I guess Laggan will have to change their publicity material. That Welsh one looks fantastic.

I can't see the vid in work unfortunately.  Is it the one in Tenby, over the flooded quarry?  It cited itself as being the longest one in the UK.  My daughter and I did a dual zip, her on the wire next to me.  She was only 7 yrs old at the time.  She's so gung ho - she was so looking forward to it, and even when she saw the wire and the drop she was up for it.  It wasn't until she was strapped in and looking at the water a hundred feet below her feet she finally said 'I don't want to do this.'  I whispered to the attendant 'Just push her.' and off we went.  Needless to say, when we got to the bottom, my daughter wanted to do it again straight away!   :D
