I'm about at the stage where it's time to draw matters to a conclusion. I've enjoyed it, but it's definitely leaned more in the direction of first-person shooter than Fallout 3 did - I preferred Fallout 3's greater emphasis on talking or persuading your way out of problems.

Enjoy the finale- it certainly has its moments.

Fallout 3 definetly made more of an impression on me than this game, but that's not to say I didn't enjoy it.

Some great characters and scenarios in Fallout 4- Nick Valentine as you mention, Paladin Danse's eventual story thread, The Glowing Sea, The Silver Shroud, the return of Liberty Prime to name a few.
Some stand out smaller moments too- the 'Dear Detective' serial killer, finding the black boxes on the crashed flights, ringing the bell in Lynnwood...

I was thoroughly entertained for many weeks (months) for a comparatively low price- that'll do me.

Glowing Sea, The Silver Shroud

This two fine quest helped me to forget about some shitty parts like... Kid in the Fridge or Cabbot House (this supposed to be another pulpy adventure but came as grotesque filler).

The final levels and missions can be vastly different depending on who you ally with, so it's probably worth loading an earlier save and taking a different path.
I felt bad wiping out The Railroad - less so the Brotherhood of Steel - but was surprised that the Institute boogeymen are probably the best thing for the Commonwealth in the long run, so I'm hoping the DLC includes building Institute dwellings at settlements rather than just the usual shanty towns.
Right now I'm finishing every possible small side quest just to avoid choosing sides in the Mass Fusion mission. I just can't decide, Institute - BoS, I hate them both for totally different reasons. I've never had this kind of problems in Fallouts before

after I sold my vault suits and regretted it later I wondered how to get my mitts on vault 81 ones without turning them hostile and upsetting karma with companions...solution? accidently chuck any synth relay grenades in a discreet bit in the vault, the synths kill the dwellers and I have some new suits!

The game was remarkably bug free for me (and for everyone else I know that bought a copy).

I installed patch 1.03 last week, which included a small fix to the settlement happiness calculator, so decided to go for the 'Benevolent Leader' trophy one more time.
Got it in about 30 minutes using this method (at Murkwater Construction Site of all places); https://m.reddit.com/r/falloutsettlements/comments/3ub076/fallout_4_benevolent_leader_trophy_fast_and_easy/

Platinum obtained- eagerly awaiting the DLC.

I came to a dead stop with a game breaking bug
Desdemona won't talk to you if the BoS are due to attack the Railroad and you've already killed everyone on the Prydwen.
Fortunately this was 3 days before patch 1.3 which fixed it. Other than that, virtually no bugs other than the occasional odd npc behavior occasionally you find in any open world game (standing on tables etc) in over 80 levels of play.
Bought the season pack this week, to get it in before the hike.
