Is the FCBD Dan Dare in this volume or was it a stand alone new strip?

It is.  I think they put that in as a demo to whet the appetite.

It is worth reading for Belardinelli's and Gibbons' art alone.  The stories have stood up reasonably well all things considered.  As with a lot of Dare from the original Eagle, through tooth and the eighties Eagle to the recent Virgin strip there are bits and pieces that stand out better than others and this collection is no exception.  It has to be remembered that this is from the era where it was still aimed more at children than adults and it does show on occasion.  Overall though, especially if you haven't read it before, I'd say go for it.

Thanks mate just bought it from ForbiddenPlanet because it was 20 quid on there  :). I need to find my FCBD prog again and reread the strip. Also if anyone is a Batman fan forbiddenplanet have a really good variant cover with Looney Tunes on it.

Anyone else still waiting? I ordered the limited edition (really wanted the Dan Dare Poster Prog and this seemed like a sensible way to get it) and its still to show up. Am I just being impatient and others are still waiting? Have any of the limited editions arrived yet?

COMMANDO FORCES

Mine should be at my local comic shop for when I pop in tomorrow :)

I pre-ordered mine pretty much as soon as it was possible to and I also went for the limited edition, but like you Colin I haven't received it yet. I think I will give it till the end of the week and then give them a call to chase it up.

In the same boat.
Still not received mine.

I ordered the Limited Edition Dan Dare hardcover on Nov 3rd but based on my past experiences of ordering from the 2000AD shop I don't have any great expectations of seeing it for weeks. I'm still waiting for delivery of the Fiends of the Eastern Front hardcover I ordered in the Halloween Sale last month and the JD 2016 Calendar I ordered on Oct 21st only arrived this Monday (Nov 9th) so if I'm lucky I might  have them by the end of this month. Why it (generally) takes so long to ship goods out I've no idea and I don't mean to be ungrateful but a deal has to be a really good deal to persuade me to order anything from the shop rather than other retailers.  :-\

I grabbed the insanely cheap Mek-Files and Brass Sun deals and they took their time to arrive. That said, they were packaged EXTREMELY well. Only Amazon comes close. So both books were pretty much immaculate when released from their cardboardy confines. For hardbacks, that's worth the wait.

Magnetica

I prefer to support the 2000 AD on line store where I can but what I don't understand about it, is that it is often more expensive than say Forbidden Planet.

I was lucky mine arrived last week. Here it is with the original poster mag which came out in 77 or 78 and a few other Dan Dare books I've picked up over the years. It was Dan Dare that made me pick up 2000AD when it came out in Feb 1977 as I was lucky enough to read a few of the Eagle Annuals.  My first ever Dare story was The Robocrabs in the 1963 annual. All my early progs are bagged up so I can't wait to read these Dan Dare stories for the first time in 35 years over Christmas.  Thanks Rebellion!  :D

COMMANDO FORCES

The regular one still hasn't turned up at my local comic shop.

Fungus

Impressive display Megabus  :)
I'm leaning towards picking up the DD book, didn't read the stories in '77 but maybe around '81 and the progs aren't too durable.

As for pricing, FP can offer economies of scale, I guess. Amazon too.

IndigoPrime

All those Titan volumes. I was set to pick those up at one point, but gave up when the first went out of print and rapidly became insanely expensive. I'm surprised Titan hasn't reprinted them.

I'm sure it won't be long John. The wave of nostalgia that hit when I opened this book was a delight...not sure I can wait until Christmas before reading it though....I need more will power to combat this classic Thrillpower!  :D

Hi Fungas, I fully recommend picking up this book. Great reproduction through out on glossy paper...can't wait for vol 2.

Hi Indigoprime, Yes I'm glad I bought them as they came out.  I'm a little dissapointed that they didn't finish the series off though.

I must give this collection a chance. Only read Ennis DD and I can't said I was impressed.
