It's probably a tedious question that has been asked over and over, so I apologise, but I am relatively new to this board so I would like to see how people respond. So... what five epics would make your top 5?

So... what five epics would make your top 5?

Is it specifically epics you're interested in? Because whilst my favourite Dredd story (Necropolis) is indeed an epic, most of the rest aren't.

WhizzBang

I am going to assume we mean stories and/or epics and I go for:

1) Judge Death Lives
2) Tour Of Duty
3) America
4) Block Mania/Apocolypse War
5) The Vampire Effect

Some may not recall the last one - it is a Mike McMahon drawn one in full colour from an early annual where the 'vampire' is a big white blob that ends with a bunch of blocks falling over domino style.

My favourites so far are...

1. Day of Chaos : Endgame
2. The Apocalypse War
3. The Judda story in Oz (although I wish this was colour)
4. America
5. Can't decide between Mechanismo and Origins

(I've not read it all yet, not even nearly, so these are my favourites of those stories I've read so far.)

If we're talking about epics (20+ episodes) then:
1. Necropolis
2. Oz
3. The Pit
4. Apocalypse War
5. Tour of Duty

If it's any stories then:
1. Tale of the Dead Man
2. The Devil You Know
3. America
4. Death of a Judge
5. Cockroaches

Andy Lambert

Love a list. Let's see...

1) Judge Death Lives
2) City Of The Damned
3) Cry Of The Werewolf
4) Block Mania
5) Nosferatu

Guess I like the monsters.
These are based purely on what captured my imagination as a kid in the early 80s and the wonderful nostalgia they evoke today.

Hawkmumbler

If it's any given story, then for me it's:

Day of Chaos (All of it!)
Caterpillars
Cry of the Werewolf
America
Bury My Knee and Wounded Heart

America
The Apocalyse War
Necropolis

Rogue Judge

Tough question - I'm only on Case Files #21 so I haven't read some of the important epics such as Tour of Duty or the Pit, so I cant weigh in on those yet. However, these are some of the best IMO:

-Cursed Earth
-Necropolis
-Apocalypse War
-Judgement Day (a lot of people don't like this one but I thoroughly enjoy it!)
-Judge Child/City of the Damed epics

Honorable Mentions:
-Judge Death
-Day the Law Died
-Many of the short stories with art by Ron Smith are some of my favorites (Otto Sump, Stupid Gun etc)
-Chopper stories (OZ)

Magnetica

#9
An almost impossible question with 40 years of stuff to choose from, so my answer will change depending on how I feel and what I have read lately.

So I will go, for now, with what occurs to me off the top of my head.

Judge Child quest
Judge Death Lives
Mega City Rackets (Umpty Baggers, Organ Leggers, Chump Dumpers etc)
Six
America

Honourable mentions:

Day of Chaos
The Pit ( but suffers from too many non-complementary artists)
Plus one I am expecting to place highly but haven't read since it was originally published: Tour of Duty.

Not forgetting many pithy one offs , mainly with Ron Smith on art (you know the ones back in the day, from I dunno early 200s upto Prog 500 something).

DrRocka

Crikey, 2000 odd episodes to choose from, how the hell d'you narrow it down?
Off the top of my head, then:

Dredd in Banana City (the one with Crazy Barry & Little Mo)
The Fear That Made Milwaukee Famous ("nobody calls me CHICKEN HEAD"!)
The Apocalypse War
Tour Of Duty
The one where Dredd retires an older judge who's losing his touch, then goes and sits on his bike in the older guy's loading bay. Can't remember what it's called, but it left an impression on me of Dredd's unspoken thoughts. Brilliant writing.

And a couple of thousand others, of course.
Never ever bloody anything ever

DrRocka

Oops, didn't see the word "epic" there. In that case...
Apocalypse War
Tour of duty
Necropolis
The Day The Law Died
Oz
Never ever bloody anything ever

matty_ae

5 one-offs or short stories rather than epics

1. Bury my heart at wounded knee
2. Alone in a Crowd.
3. The Comeback (Jaxxon Prince)
4. Fifty-Year Man
5. Letter From a Democrat.

I would say these should John Wagner is an amazing writer
