Cover versions are a bit hit & miss, some radically different some so similar as to be pointless. & then of course there are all those awful heavy metal versions of pop songs etc. But I really like this one!

Rolling in the Deep - Adele Acoustic Cover (Jorge and Alexa Narvaez)

PS - is there no way to embed youtube clips on here?

PsychoGoatee

For me, the masters will always be Tragedy, the all metal tribute to the Bee Gees. I've seen them twice no less.

This, in turn, has reminded me of GABBA.
A Ramones look(and sound)alike band performing the hits of ABBA.
Can there be anything more delicious than that?

JamesC

My favourite cover version is Boney M's rendition of 'No Woman, No Cry'.

Gavin_Leahy_Block

Not a fan of Coldplay, but this is amazing.
Willie Nelson - Scientist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v525UGbA448

And this has always been a favourite.
Kate Bush - Rocket Man http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b6dO2wouhQ

loveforstitch - Does he fall in love? I like a little romance in all my movies.

Rekaert - Yes, he demonstrates it with bullets, punches and sentencing.

He's Mega City 1's own Don Juan.

I remember Johnny Cash releasing that song and both myself and the wife looking at each other and said he wasn't long for this world

A truely awesome song sadly near the end more so that not only had his wife starred in the video but she to had not long died before him :(

Pete Yorn is certainly my favourite artist of these last ten or so years and he's done a few decent covers (There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, Ever Fallen In Love? Moonriver, Bizarre Love Triangle, I Wanna Be Adored etc) but I get double excited when he covers The Boss...

No, no, no, it's this:

Captain Beefheart 'Grown so ugly'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2wtHYyERls

Original version by Robert Pete Williams
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTFWkLmc_7w

Both are superb but I prefer the late great Captain's.

Unfortunately some people off of the internet seem to think it was written by the Black Keys.

"I left Angola
1964
Go walking down my street
Knock on my baby's door
My baby come out
She asks me who I am
And I say, honey,
Don't you know your man?
She said my man's been gone
Since 1942
And I'll tell you Mr. Ugly,
He didn't look like you"

Red rag to a bull that is  :D Not sure what/who you mean by that exactly (though I have a feeling there's plenty I'd agree with), but in any case, here's a collection of some favourite covers of mine from over the years. I'll try to avoid the more obscure, but then that's relative. This may go on a bit, but of course you're entitled to ignore the entire thing  ;)

Primus
Making Plans for Nigel (XTC)
Have a Cigar (Pink Floyd)

Ministry
Lay Lady Lay (Bob Dylan)

Melvins (masters of covers)
Let Me Roll It (Wings)
The Green Manalishi (Fleetwood Mac)
Youth of America (Wipers)
Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana) - Somewhat in the category of "so similar as to be pointless", but it's got Leif Garret singing, Dale Crover was the drummer on Nirvana's first demo before they introduced Dave Grohl to them, so it's allowed. Also, if you've ever heard a pub band (or anyone in fact) covering this, you'll know that Grohl's drumming is not easy to match.

Johnny Cash (R.I.P)
Edit: already posted  :D

Voivod
Astronomy Domine (Pink Floyd)

Nomeansno
Bitches Brew (Miles Davis)
Beat on the Brat (Ramones)
Manic Depression (Hendrix)
Looking Forward to Death - Acapella (Dead Kennedys)  :D

Slayer
Filler/I Don't Want to Hear it (Minor Threat)

Lastly, Fantomas. Bit different, in that these are all covers/versions of movie theme songs.
Experiment in Terror
Charade
One Step Beyond
The Godfather
